It is a busy Tuedsay morning in Old Paarl road as taxis hoot for passengers and hawkers try to sell ID covers. Sam looks at her watch as she leaves Home Affairs and slips a quick glance at her new husband.
'This is not exactly how I would have wanted it,' She thinks. 'I would have liked something more romantic but it is what we wanted- to start a family far away from South Africa. As they walk to the car they smile at each other, this is their new beginning, this is their story.
They hit the road, barely able to see through the back window as all they owned fills up the space. Today is the day at last. For the last 3 years this has been their dream- to escape and start over. To run away to a place that was not fogged up with bad memories and broken dreams.
Sam looks at him as the sign for the N1 appears and gives a gentle smile. They take the road and never look back....
We all have bad memories of South Africa, but leaving this place might not be the solution. Fighting all the bad things might be though.
ReplyDeleteHope that as the leave South Africa and start anew, the next chaper of their lives will be the beginning of a brighter future. I still do not agree that leaving is the best option.
