So here I am, five months into my B-tech year (crazy enough to take all five subjects), and five months into my job as an account executive at Purple Pine PR. And just when I think that okay I have had enough of constantly juggling a rainbow comes my way.
And although a metaphorical rainbow would have been more effective it was something as simple as a natural rainbow that jolted my mind and heart to want to continue to keep all the balls in the air. I was driving to work, same road as always, on a cloudy Friday morning, when a small rainbow appeared in the sky. And for a second I was convinced I was the only one that could see it, and this rainbow was there for me. Like it was the universe saying to me that I should keep on going.
And while I was driving I thought of all the small things I have been missing, the moments that have escaped me in this year because I was so busy looking at the big picture. The smiles, the company, the morning sun and the track on the radio that just puts you into the right mood.
And when I thought about it, my mind ran to something that happened a month ago that had actually pushed me to tears because it was so beautiful, and as soon as it was over I wiped my eyes and carried on. It was the blind cyclist Hein Wagner, a man blind from birth but so full of vision, completing 707km’s of mountain biking terrain in the 2011 Absa Cape Epic. Here I was nagging about small things, and a man that has never seen his own face is making such a huge difference.
So let us all aim to inspire and to stay inspired, by all the things that life brings, whether it to be good or bad, joyous or heart breaking. We have this one life and we have to live it despite what happens, so why not do it in a way that makes you and other people want to do it everyday.
Sometimes things happen that inspire us, but it is up to us to see those things. Happy that you're still seeing rainbows between all the dark clouds.
