I am a baby shower fan, I just don’t want to have the baby!

So this weekend I attended my first baby shower, which was hosted for my cousin at her house. Being the workaholic that I am, I had thoughts of cancelling, to rather spend some time with my laptop to catch up on admin for the week. Luckily I decided to go and it was so worth it.

Although most babies are unplanned, and most parents to be are stressed to provide for another little life, we forget that children are one of the biggest gifts the universe can give us. And in the spirit of making our family bigger, we threw a bash that even had the neighbours wondering what was happening.

To start out my cousin was turned into a big baby, with a diaper strapped onto her and a dirty bib hung around her neck. For our own enjoyment a disposable ladies pad was coloured red with old lipstick and stuck over her eyes with a blind fold.

She then had to identify gifts that were given to her, including the colour, and for every incorrect answer she got (which was most of them), she had to dip her face in a bowl of flour to eat a sweet hidden in the bowl. There is just something about this kind of innocent fun that makes you laugh out loud from your stomach.

We all then joined in for a game of pin the sperm, in which we had to put a sperm cell on a drawing of a lady part, completely blind folded.

And then my favourite: the nursery rhyme game. There are 20 nursery rhymes in the quiz. For each answer you have correct you receive a prize. Surprisingly most of us could not get the answers and the MC was kind enough to still give us a prize.

So after a day of fun I could feel my excitement for this baby building. But then some things changed my mind. Here is why I would not have my own baby:

· You may not drink alcohol

· You have to sacrifice half of your room for babies things

· You have to sacrifice all your money for babies things

And that is just the tip of the ice berg. So baby shower yes please and but I will pass on the baby for now.

  1. Not drinking alcholhol is only for nine months - the joy babies bring far exceed this period of alcpohol'inconvenience'.
Once you keep the new born baby in your arms- they take over your life and you are filled with love (and an untidy room becomes insignificant compared to your parental joy and happiness. I promise you - when the time is right, your will enjoy motherhood. In the meantime, enjoy the baby showers.

  2. Nine months is a looong time Daphne. lol. I think having a baby when you are ready is just so much healthier for the baby that will eventually become a grown man or woman. However, unplanned babies can also bring so much joy! But i think I'll also wait.... a while.... a loooong while.
